Image Odysseys - a new blog

Image Odysseys is my new blog for discovering the beauty of Oregon through paintings and photography. Image Odysseys will feature very scenic, diverse sections of Oregon. First up of the odysseys will be the southern coast of Oregon, with its haystack rocks and rugged Pacific coastline. Future journeys will highlight areas like the Columbia River Gorge, the volcanic Cascades, the High Desert, the rocky Wallowa Mountains and many others.

Stop by and join in the adventures.

Sweet Creek

Here are a couple of photos from a hike yesterday along Sweet Creek near Florence, OR. The weather was great, there was plenty of water in the stream and wildflowers were abundant - it was a great day.

There are also some photos of whitewater kayakers paddling the creek on my Flickr photostream.

(This one was taken with the ISO lowered and
the F-stop raised to feather the water a bit.)

New Flickr Photostream

I have a brand new Flickr Photostream - http://www.flickr.com/photos/robrrobinson/ .

The first set of photos is from a recent trip to Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda on the Oregon Coast. Below is one of the photos. There will be many more photos in the stream soon.

Night light abstracts

On the way home from the coast the other night, I had a lot of fun taking photos of the lights outside the car as we were going down the highway (I was not driving). I enjoyed moving the camera to add to the movement of the car to make some interesting abstract patterns. Plus it was a huge change from shooting nature photography all day.

Eagle at Cape Lookout

Saturday was a beautiful day, perfect for a hike out Cape Lookout at the Oregon coast. We were told by other hikers out at the tip of the Cape that we just missed seeing a whale calf swim by near the rocks below. ...but then this bald eagle flew by, not bothered by the 30 or so people watching as it sailed close by.

More Water Patterns

After yesterday's post, I went back and looked at some other water photos, particularly ones with patterns and found these:

An IS Test

I tried an informal test of the IS (image stabilization) on my camera and lens. This photo with the soft water look was taken in bright sunlight handheld at 1/8 second. A tripod would certainly have been a good idea, but it came out better than I expected.

Crows and Geese

Saw this interesting combination south of Corvallis Saturday - crows and geese - plus the early blossoms on the tree, cloud-darkened sky and bright green grass add all that color.
